Piero Tortola, Associate Professor at the University of Groningen and scientific coordinator of the REGROUP project, presents his latest research, conducted together with Benjamin Leruth, on the politics of expertise during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this video, he explores how experts influenced policy-making by focusing on three key factors: 1) The role of experts in shaping decisions, 2) public trust in expert authority, and 3) Communication of science — how was information shared and understood by citizens. Watch the video to discover how these dynamics affected governance and democratic accountability during the crisis.

This research is based on the paper: “The politics of expertise in the COVID-19 pandemic: A multi-level mini-public approach“.
